In this presentation we will investigate the principles of decontamination and sterilization. We will identify
the equipment used for processing, determine work flow and highlight critical design factors for new
construction and renovation relating to hospital and surgery center, sterile processing departments (SPD).

Living Building Challenge

Like our buildings, neighborhoods and cities, a flower is rooted in place. Yet it is informed by its bioregion’s characteristics, generates energy from renewable resources, captures and treats water, and operates efficiently and for maximum beauty. These qualities epitomize ecological system flows and internalizing these processes is the key to sustainability.

Right now, every natural system on the planet is in decline, and there is no shared understanding of how to reverse the trend. A new bar must be set to support the rapid adoption of integrated and innovative practices.

Only the boldest vision can inspire the leaders we need. Called "a manifesto in the guise of a standard" by GreenSource Magazine, the Living Building Challenge defines priorities on both a technical level and as a set of core values. Balancing intuition with theory, it is provoking the deep conversations required within the building industry and beyond to solve problems rather than shift them.

GA Tech Hinman Research Building Rehabilitation (Completed Project) & McCamish Pavilion Court (Under

Lord, Aeck & Sargent / Office dA team rehabilitated and adapted the Hinman Research building for the Georgia Tech College of
Architecture. The 33,250 SF building includes an additional 1,250 SF of floor space in the high research bay. The rehabilitated
building is devoted to graduate architecture and industrial design education and related research programs. Provisions were made
for design studios, computer labs, jury and pinup areas as well as informal and formal public spaces.

The AMC Replacement Facility project is a major renovation of the existing 9,000 seat Alexander Memorial Coliseum (GT
Basketball Complex) to be renamed the Henry F. McCamish Jr. Arena. The renovated facility will provide for a state-of-the-art
collegiate basketball playing and viewing venue. The renovation will consist of a 30,000 SF concourse expansion with upgraded
concessions, bathrooms, a team apparel store, and other amenities. The facility’s MEP systems will be completely replaced with
new highly efficient systems. The design and construction goal for the facility is to achieve LEED Gold. The construction schedule
is 18 months. Work began in May of 2011 and is scheduled to complete in October 2012, in time for the 2012-2013 collegiate
basketball season.
